Ossining girls know their roles

WHITE PLAINS-- With 20 seconds left in No. 3 Ossining's 65-55 win over No. 8 Mount Vernon in the Class AA sectional championship, a teary India Reckard threw her arms around fellow senior Christina Rupp. When a foul was called with two seconds left, she ran onto the court thinking the game was over.
Having lost the sectional title game to Mount Vernonas a sophomore and junior, Reckard couldn't get Sunday's win over with fast enough.
A few more seconds and it was over for real, and Reckard was first in line for the Ossiningdog pile at center court. Although the overwhelming stat line again belonged to sophomore Saniya Chong, seniors Reckard and Rupp were among the many role players who saved their best for old nemesis Mount Vernon.
"Ossininggirls basketball is a program for the past and the future," Rupp said, "and for the past two years we all together have lost to Mount Vernon. And this was like the perfect win for the Ossiningfamily."
Chong was omnipresent with 42 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and five steals. She completed one of the great sectional tournaments by any player ever, by scoring a total of 174 points in four games, an average of 43.5 per game.
